The framing in every home is different and it can sometimes be hard to tell if a wall is load bearing. A good indicator is if the wall in question in running perpendicular to the floor joist below or ceiling joists above.

Theoretically, any wall can be completely removed. However the requirements of removing some walls can be cost prohibitive depending on the configuration and details such as length, location, and desired headroom. Yes. All building departments in CT require a building permit to be issued before removing a load bearing wall. Information required for this permit may include a load calculation, an existing floor plan, and a foundation analysis. All of which are included in our price.

There are two main types of installation methods for retrofitted, load bearing beams.

Flush mount – this installation involves securing the new beam within the ceiling joist structure leaving a completely flat surface on the ceiling below.

Recessed – this installation involves securing the new beam below the existing ceiling joists where it will be visible. This method is generally less expensive and faster.
